Psystar Goes Low Carb/Low Cost

OpenLite, the newest addition to our Open Computing lineup, can bring affordable Open Source Software and computing to homes and offices without sacrificing quality. Starting at $299 with an operating system, the OpenLite brings unprecedented economy to personal computer customers with 0 carbs and no trans fats. It features the same silent and tool-less chassis as the Open Computer but features components that allow it to operate with great performance for such a low price.

One Penguin Is Not Enough-More Operating Systems

Open Computing now offers CentOS 5.1 in both 64-bit and 32-bit flavors for the hardcore enterprise server folks and Fedora 9 for RedHat-based distro users. These OSes are available preinstalled on all Open Computing products.

The Announcement About The Announcement

We're pleased to announce that we're going to announce something very big, very soon. We ask you to keep a close eye on this page as it will post here first.

Shorter Build Time, n Wireless, Tons of Options
Tuesday, 20 May 2008 00:00

4-day Build Time

Right now orders for Open Computers will ship within 4 days of being ordered. We've exponentially increased our production to be able to build keep up with the volume of orders to serve our customers with faster service and quality computers. We thank you for your orders and continue to ship out great products for our customers.

n Wireless

No, not as many wirelesses as a function may use, but 802.11n wireless cards. Our wireless solution is now a PCI-Express 1x card with 3 antennae that sits just above the video card and out of everyone's way. It's a rather pleasant device in all respects.

New Options

We're now offering multiple drives on all of our computers. You can now get up to 2 optical drives on the Open and OpenPro. You can now also get 2 drives on the Open (250GB drives or whopping 750GB drives) and up to 4 drives on the OpenPro (750GB, 150GB 10,000 RPM, or 1 TB drives). Not only that but the OpenPro's base processor has worked it's way up to a 3GHz E8400 Core2Duo. We know that's a couple of new things already but we also offer a Bluetooth dongle for all of your Bluetooth devices on all of our models.

Psystar Updates and New Cases
Monday, 12 May 2008 12:20

Open Computer Updates

Safe updates, as well as bug fixes and workarounds, are now available in our Support section. We have released a couple of fixes for things like Time Machine as well as a fix for DHCP issues that some customers are having. Computers shipped as of today have all updates available preinstalled with Leopard. Please check our website regularly as we will begin releasing safe updates through the operating system's Automatic Updates and will require all of our existing users to download a small update manually and install it to enable this functionality.

New Case = New Hotness

Although we wouldn't call our original Open Computer cases old and busted, we are now offering new hotness in our line-up with the V2 case. A tool-less steel mid-tower with a familiar and stylish mesh front has replaced the original Open Computer chassis. We heard a lot of the feedback from the community and responded with these cases which are sturdier and feature a low-RPM 90mm fan for quiet operation and cool operating temperatures.

Drive Failure Concerns, Wireless Update, More OS Choices
Tuesday, 29 April 2008 16:06
We have had many e-mails in regards to what process users can follow if their hard drive were to fail. As of right now we don't have, but are currently working on, an automated reinstallation mechanism but we do offer an alternative. If your drive is to fail during the one-year hardware exchange period when you send us back your drive we'll send you the replacement drive with your OS loaded on it. We're now offering a wireless PCI card as part of the Open and OpenPro Computer configurations. We're also offering Vista Ultimate with our Open Computers in both 32-bit and 64-bit flavors. We thank you for your orders and your support and are excited to bring you new features and improvements through our products.

A Peek at the Open Computers
Wednesday, 23 April 2008 16:16

We've put together a little video to show everyone what Open Computers are all about. Open Computing is about having choices and we allow for Open Computers to be purchased with pretty much every major consumer operating system. Both Windows XP and Windows Vista cover most of the market segment while Ubuntu Server and Desktop represent the Linux crowd. We're bringing powerful and economic computers to a new market segment as well: the group that uses OS X.

Sorry about being Quicktime-only but this was put together in OS X Leopard, using Final Cut Pro, on an Open Computer.
